Week Twelve - Final Blog

The semester went by so quickly and I must admit I was very intimidated when I read the syllabus.  This was my first semester of the health administration informatics graduate program.  I have worked in the health care IT world for the last 15 years and it has been quite a fun roller coaster ride.  This course has given me more in depth knowledge about technologies like cloud, data mining, e-commerce and decision support systems.  I also learned a valuable lesson about group dynamics.  Sometimes you have to accept that some people work at different paces and you have to do your best to be a team player.

Week Eleven

We are finally making it to the finish line.  This week I was swamped at work with an upgrade to the hospital’s mainly patient system.  I started to stress when the go live was pushed from Tuesday to Thursday which is when I planned on completing 2 to 3 questions.  Unfortunately I was forced to spend all of Friday and Saturday night completing a huge bulk of the questions.  I hope that I was successful with my final exam.

Week Ten

What a disappointing week this has been?  The group project was a nightmare.  The whole experience has really tainted my view of grad school.

Week Nine

I really enjoyed the GPS tracking discussion question.  The avatar was pretty fun.  I spent more time then I should have customizing it.  I am continuing to do my research for the team project.

Week Eight

This week is crunch time especially since I am behind from being sick for over a week.  I am struggling to find a way to manage everything such as work, school and family.  It was good to read about the different methods of converting a legacy system.  The methods listed in the textbook were valid however depending on the business and their monetary constraints the IT staff maybe be forced to use the worse method.

Week Seven

I learned a lot about my computer knowledge this week.  All of the subjects like networking and hardware were the questions that I struggled with the most on my mid-term.  I really enjoyed the mini project of using OLAP to find trends in government employee data.  The upcoming group project is causing me to have some concerns.

Week Six

The mid-term is due this week.  So far its not as bad as I imagined but I still have two questions to complete.  The dreaded ERP has come back to haunt me since that is listed on the mid-term.  I think I have it down packed.  I am starting to get nervous about my group project.  I guess I will just have to have faith that it will all come together smoothly.
